Seeing in this OTD post the range of stations in South Lanarkshire which were closed on 4 January 1965, it was striking how much impact this must have made on the isolation of these communities.
Biggar station had closed in 1950, the Peebles line had closed 3 years previously. The closed stations closed that day are mapped here in red and the notionally nearest stations - some many miles away - in blue.
