After a conversation about the decline in Scotland's fishing industry, I posted to Mastodon about the lack of Wikidata to support analysis of places by current or former industry.
I am suggesting extending use of the Industry property P452 for use on places. This or some other Property can underpin a richer understanding of what forms of work activity led to a town emerging/declining: fishing, weaving, salt panning, etc.
Meantime, using Wikipedia categories, it is possible to map with a Fishing community query and a Mining community query. Because this is not driven from the Wikidata Query Service, a composite view needs other tools. In the map image here, I used these queries (plus one on the distinct Fife mining category) on Observablehq and then utilised the Leaflet tool, showing the fishing communities in red here, and the mining communities in blue.
