Evolution of the Scottish Press

The diagram shows a timeline of Scottish newspapers' by first publication. A lot of these are too below-the-radar for articles on Wikipedia but data is available on Wikidata.

Though the "unstamped" papers which opposed early 19th century censorship are missing from the data, the diagram shows the spread of established papers.

A key limitation is that these were selected by town, with <3000 population filtered out. This cuts the run-time but, oh woe, I lost the West Highland Free Press which should really be in there. The related problem is that a lot of papers are now local in name only, with printing - and often editorial - shunted far away, and/or with their website just redirecting to a national page, such as the Daily Record. A problem of our times, but makes the town-driven data tricky here.
